Government assisting vulnerable families in islands placed under monitoring

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has begun efforts to provide assistance to vulnerable families in islands placed under monitoring by Health Protection Agency (HPA) following detection of COVID-19 cases.

Islands placed under monitoring by HPA include Hulhudhuffaaru, Ungoofaaru, Alifushi and Maduvvari in Raa Atoll, Naifaru and Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Dhiffushi and Huraa in Kaafu Atoll, Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll and Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The gender ministry revealed efforts are underway to gather information on vulnerable families living in these islands and to provide care packages for them.

The gender ministry has been active in assisting vulnerable individuals and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the ministry has provided over 600 care packages to families in 3 cities and 11 islands across the atolls. Items provided under the care package include food, sanitiser, masks, gloves and hygiene supplies.
