MWSC begins development of water and sewerage system in Kumundhoo

Male’ Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has officially inaugurated the project to develop the water and sewerage system in Kumundhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The project was officially inaugurated during a ceremony held in Kumundhoo on April 2. The ceremony was attended by Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah, Parliamentarian for Makunudhoo constituency Mohamed Raaee and President of Kumundhoo Council Ameen Mohamed.

The project to develop the water and sewerage system in Kumundhoo was contracted to MWSC in November 2020. The project was contracted to MWSC to be completed within 18 months. The company had begun physical works of the project in January.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Parliamentarian Raaee said this was a historic day for Kumundhoo, as the people of the island have long awaited the development of a water and sewerage system in the island. He noted the project would have reached completion by now, if the COVID-19 pandemic had not happened.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah said this is the biggest project to be contracted to the company by the government. He added the warm welcome given by the people of Kumundhoo to MWSC shows the importance of this project to the island. He assured the people of Kumundhoo that MWSC will complete the project as scheduled.

Under the project, MWSC will provide water and sewerage connections to 480 households of Kumundhoo. The project is valued at USD 6.7 million.
