Women promoted to Superintendent rank for the first time in MPS history

Three female officers have been appointed as Superintendents of Police, marking the first time women have been promoted to this rank in the history of Maldives Police Service (MPS).

During a function held on April 4, three female officers who were ranked as Chief Inspector of Police were promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police. They are Superintendents Fathimath Nashwa, Mariyam Azma and Izmia Zahir.

Superintendent of Police Fathimath Nashwa is currently serving as the Division Commander of Upper North Police. She has been serving MPS for over 25 years.

Superintendent of Police Izmia Zahir is currently serving as the Head of Organisational Reform Department at MPS. She has served MPS in multiple roles across the last 16 years, including the role of the Spokesperson of MPS.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Mariyam Azma had been serving as the Division Commander of Central Police. She has served the majority of her 25 years of service to MPS in the field of investigation.

Following the promotion of three female officers to the rank of Superintendent, MPS stated this was historic day for the institution, and especially for female police officers. MPS said the achievement of the three officers have brought hope and inspiration to other female police officers.
