Neighbourhood policing ensures society works together: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated the main purpose of neighbourhood policing service is to ensure the general society works together as one community.

The home minister made the remarks speaking at the ceremony held in Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Atoll to launch the neighbourhood police service. The neighbourhood policing service is a community-oriented policing strategy that focuses on police officers building ties with members of the public.

At the ceremony, the home minister said the main aim of the service is to identify the nature and origin of a crime or an offense and to eliminate such acts before they take place. The minster further said the positive outcome of the service will be seen when the councils, schools, health centres, and other organisations work closely with the police to maintain peace and stability in the community. He noted the society will be successful in all other aspects, as well as economically, if peace is established in the community.
