NCTC holds webinar for religious scholars

National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has held a webinar focusing on curbing extremism and violent extremism in the community.

The webinar is held under the theme The Role of Religious Scholars for a Cohesive Community. NCTC revealed the aim of the webinar is to increase the participation of religious scholars in ensuring a peaceful community where the dangers of extremism and violence are eliminated.

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the webinar, Director General of NCTC Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor highlighted the significance of religious scholars in prevention of the spread of extremism in the society.

The webinar was held in collaboration with Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) and the India-based Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA). It was participated by 40 religious scholars across the Maldives.

NCTC is the national lead agency for coordinating the efforts of countering terrorism and violent extremism. NCTC acts as the primary agency for integrating and analysing all intelligence pertaining to terrorism and violent extremism acquired by all partner agencies and organisations. NCTC is mandated to coordinate the whole-of-government and the whole-of-society counter terrorism and counter violent extremism efforts of the Maldives.
