Those who received first dose of vaccine abroad can get second dose in the Maldives: HPA

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated individuals who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines abroad can receive the second dose in the Maldives.

HPA instructed such individuals to submit copies of their vaccine card, national identity card, or passport to Ministry of Health, along with contact numbers and details of their first dose.

Maldives began administering COVID-19 vaccines on February 1 with the roll out of the Covishield vaccine, which was donated by the Government of India. The second dose of Covishield has to be taken 8 to 12 weeks after the first dose.

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has also approved the use of the Sinopharm vaccine, which was donated by the Government of China. HPA recently opened registration for individuals who wish to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, but only for individuals identified as high-risk.

Over 241,000 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives, with most of the population receiving the Covishield vaccine.
