No more islands without completed or ongoing water and sewerage projects: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated there are no more islands in the Maldives without completed or ongoing water and sewerage projects.

The President made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony held at Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll, to conclude the campaign activities of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for the upcoming Local Council Elections (LCE) and the Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE).

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said the projects carried out by the administration are directly related to decentralisation. The President stated the Maldives is finally saying goodbye to the gathering of powers to central authorities, and welcoming a new era of governance where powers and authorities are distributed to the public. He noted the projects launched in all islands across the Maldives are proof that the Maldives is ready for a decentralised system of governance.

Speaking in this regard, the President noted the administration has launched water and sewerage projects in all parts of the country as part of efforts to establish essential services for all islands. As such, the President noted there are no islands where water and sewerage projects have not begun, at least at tender stage. He said the aim is to complete the projects and hand over the water and sewerage systems to the respective local authorities by the end of the current term.
