Inclusive Education Support Units established in two schools under Indian grant aid

Inclusive Education Support Units established in two Maldivian schools under Indian grant assistance has been inaugurated.

A virtual ceremony was held on April 18 to mark the inauguration of the establishment of Inclusive Education Support Units in Afeefuddin School in Kulhudhuffushi City and Hafiz Ahmed School in Fuvahmulah City. This project was funded with a grant of USD 103,000, under the Indian grant assistance of USD 6.9 million.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, parliamentarians of the respective constituencies and High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir. Speaking at the event, Minister Shahid highlighted the importance of designing schools and classes in such a way that all children feel a sense of belonging, thus instilling good values that enable children to grow and become valuable contributors to their communities in the near future.

Under this project, the human resource capacity of the Inclusive Education Support Units established in both schools had been strengthened significantly through the provision of specialised training programmes offered to staff members and the procurement of learning materials. In addition, the infrastructure of the Inclusive Education Support Units at both schools have undergone refurbishment, to provide a conducive learning environment for the students and staff of the schools.

The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million granted to the Maldives by India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
