Baa Atoll Hospital has instructed people who have travelled from Eydhafushi to another island or region since April 1 to self-isolate in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
COVID-19 cases were detected in Eydhafushi on April 19, when a woman who consulted the flu clinic in the island tested positive for the disease. Since then, 37 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Eydhafushi.
Baa Atoll Hospital has instructed people who have been to Eydhafushi recently and left to another island after April 1 to self-isolate, and inform the nearest hospital or health centre. They have also been asked to remain in quarantine until their PCR test results come out negative.
Meanwhile, individuals who travelled from Eydhafushi to Male’ since April 1 have been asked to get tested at a flu clinic. They have been asked to remain in quarantine for 14 days, even if the initial test result comes out negative.
Baa Atoll Hospital states the reason behind the community spread situation in Eydhafushi has not yet been identified. The hospital stated COVID-19 containment measures have been strengthened in the island.
A total of 452 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in Eydhafushi, with 37 positive results, 392 negative results and 23 pending results. One person who had tested positive in Eydhafushi has been admitted to the regional COVID-19 treatment facility established at Baa Atoll Hospital.
Meanwhile, Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll has also been placed under monitoring after two people who travelled to the island from Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Atoll on April 20 tested positive for COVID-19. Hanimaadhoo Health Centre stated 20 direct contacts have been identified from the positive cases.
