Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed another 45 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Atoll, taking the total number of cases in the island to 82.
HPA has placed Mathiveri under monitoring due to the community spread situation declared in the island. Following the detection of COVID-19 in Mathiveri, 240 samples have been tested in the island for COVID-19, with 82 people testing positive. The health centre in Mathiveri revealed the number of people consulting the centre upon showing flu-like symptoms have increased in the past few days.
Contact tracing is still ongoing in Mathiveri. Several households in the island have been quarantined due to the positive cases.
Meanwhile, another 11 COVID-19 cases were reported in Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll on April 23, taking the total number of cases in the island to 48. So far, 469 samples have been tested in Eydhafushi, with 48 positive results and 421 negative results. A woman over the age of 50 who tested positive has been admitted in the regional COVID-19 treatment facility in Baa Atoll.
Maldives reported a record daily increase of COVID-19 cases on April 23, with 319 new cases reported across the country. There are currently over 3,200 active cases in the Maldives, including 98 patients who have been admitted in hospitals or medical facilities.
