Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 23 islands across the Maldives are currently under monitoring due to detection of COVID-19 cases.
HPA revealed more than 800 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the atolls since last week. As a result, several islands have been placed under monitoring, with entry and exit banned in the islands until further notice.
Islands which are currently under monitoring include Dhiffushi, Gulhi, Maafushi, Thulusdhoo and Himmafushi in Kaafu Atoll, Naifaru and Felivaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Bodufolhudhoo, Ukulhas and Mathiveri in Alifu Alifu Atoll, Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll, Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Maandhoo, Gan and Fonadhoo in Laamu Atoll and Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
HPA stated entry and exit has been banned in these islands to carry out contact tracing and control further spread of the disease. Residents of these islands are not allowed to visit other households or hold gatherings in public places.
