Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated the Maldives is experiencing its fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At a press conference at HEOC, Physician at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) Dr. Mohamed Ali said the spike in positive COVID-19 cases has resulted in more people becoming severely ill. He said there is a chance of a spread of a new variant, considering the high number of infected people.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the daily number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has hit a new record once again, with 734 new cases reported on May 5. This was the fourth consecutive day where the single day tally of COVID-19 hit a new record in the Maldives.
