Health Protection Agency (HPA) has decided to conduct curfews in two cities and five islands in the atolls to control the spread of COVID-19.
HPA announced curfews will be conducted in the cities of Addu and Fuvahmulah, as well as the islands of Naifaru, Maafushi, Mathiveri, Ukulhas and Eydhafushi. As such, HPA revealed the curfew will be conducted from 1600hrs until 0400hrs every day, with all movement of vehicles and pedestrians banned during the curfew hours. Parties, ceremonies, gatherings and visits to other households have been banned in the islands.
Further measures introduced include closure of gyms and salons, and suspension of all sporting and exercise activities. Cafes and restaurants are required to suspend its dine-in services, while shops are required to follow HPA guidelines in serving its customers.
COVID-19 cases have increased sharply in the Maldives over the past few weeks. Several islands across the atolls have been placed under monitoring due to an outbreak of COVID-19.
