Ministry of Economic Development has announced shops, cafes and restaurants in the Greater Male’ Region will be able to provide delivery services until 0000hrs with a police permit.

The economic ministry has announced the revised business hours in the Male’ area, in line with the new measures imposed by Health Protection Agency (HPA) to curb the spread of COVID-19. As such, the economic ministry stated shops, cafes and restaurants will be allowed to bring in customers from 0500hrs until 1600hrs, while delivery services can be provided with a police permit from 1600hrs until 0000hrs. All establishments are required to adhere to HPA guidelines when providing their services.

A curfew has been imposed from 1600hrs until 0400hrs in the Greater Male’ Region as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. All movement is prohibited during curfew hours, unless a police permit is obtained.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated individuals who need to go out for essential purposes during curfew hours must apply for a permit through the designated portal. The permits are issued via police call centre, 1665, and police portal, police.gov.mv/permit.

MPS stated a permit is required to go out during curfew hours and for all heath service requirements unless in an emergency. Further, MPS said taxi services during the hours should only be provided to pass or permit holders. Moreover, MPS has urged all uniform bodies such as Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Immigration, security firms and airport staff to go to work in their uniforms.

MPS has warned of strict surveillance during the curfew hours following an order of President Ibrahim Mohemd Solih to security forces, to work together to implement the safety measures imposed by the HPA to contain further spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
