India approves USD 2 million grant for extension of NKN to the Maldives

The Government of India has approved a USD 2 million grant for the extension of the National Knowledge Network (NKN) to the Maldives.

The NKN is a high-speed broadband network that connects educational institutions and research entities within India. NKN would help the Government of the Maldives to establish a high-speed National Research and Education Network (NREN) that would knit all the research and education institutions as well as schools and government agencies in the Maldives.

The National Centre of Information Technology (NCIT) will be coordinating the project in the Maldives. The project is expected to be completed in the next 3-4 months.
