Maldives spends USD 2.69 million in the past week for COVID-19 relief efforts

Ministry of Finance has revealed the administration spent USD 2.69 million in the past week towards COVID-19 relief efforts.

As per the Weekly COVID-19 Spending publicised by Ministry of Finance, as of May 13, the administration spent USD 110 million towards health and social efforts which is an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the spending at the end of the previous week. The statistics show USD 110 million was spent as economic response spending, which sums up the total spending to over USD 220 million.

According to statistics, in terms of week-on-week spending, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) registered the highest spending at approximately USD 2.67 million. The majority of the spending from IGMH was on supplies and requisites for service provision which include medical consumables.

The statistics reveal a major composition of the spending on health and social efforts by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) with USD 56.1 million spent so far. As per the statistics, a large share of the expenses was spent on attaining medical equipment, test kits and supplies with the total amounting to USD 32.3 million.

All government authorities are working together to overcome the impact of COVID-19 and particular efforts have been put to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
