Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed a high number of the people who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives were not vaccinated.
Statistics from the HPA showed mainly individuals between 18 and 49 tested positive for COVID-19 in this calendar year, adding 40% of them had not taken a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Therefore, HPA advised all individuals who have not yet been inoculated to take a COVID-19 jab urgently.
In addition, HPA revealed mostly men have tested positive for COVID-19 across the country. In this regard, HPA said over 34,000 men and over 23,000 women have tested for COVID-19 in the Maldives. Furthermore, according to the HPA, 76% of the total COVID-19 cases detected are of Maldivians and 12% of the cases were of Bangladeshi nationals living in the Maldives.
Maldives has announced nearly 60,000 COVID-19 cases, including nearly 25,000 active cases and 150 deaths. So far, over 307,000 individuals have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and over 161,000 individuals have completed two doses of the vaccine.
