Local platform to be established to resolve internet issues in schools

Ministry of Education has stated a local platform will be established to resolve the difficulties faced in accessing internet in schools.

In a press conference, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali stated efforts are underway with local ISPs Dhiraagu and Ooredoo to provide data packages for parents of students undertaking online lessons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister noted efforts are also underway to establish a local platform to provide internet access to all schools, adding a pilot programme will be conducted in some schools next week to test the platform. She said the aim is to provide internet access to all schools through the platform by the start of the new academic year in August.

The education minister also highlighted the reduced internet prices announced by the government last week will directly benefit students and teachers to carry out their online classes. She noted the improved speeds will also help teachers and students to communicate better during the online classes.
