Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced residents in islands currently under quarantine will be released once they complete their vaccination doses and receive a negative PCR result.
In a statement, HPA also informed that individuals can travel from Male', islands, resorts, guesthouses, to other islands 14 days after they complete two doses of vaccination if they obtain a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to travel. HPA stated children who are not eligible for the vaccine can travel without having to undergo quarantine if they obtain a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to travel.
Furthermore, travellers arriving in the Maldives, including locals and work permit holders are required to remain in quarantine until a negative PCR result is obtained upon testing at the end of the quarantine period. The mandatory quarantine period will be reduced to seven days for individuals who received two doses of a vaccine approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) at least two weeks prior to travel, and have obtained a negative PCR result 96 hours prior to travelling to the Maldives, stated HPA.
The government has recently eased restrictions due to the low number of positive COVID-19 cases in the Maldives. The latest statistics from HPA show 139 positive cases on July 7, including 26 cases in the Greater Male' Region and 81 cases in the atolls.
