Health Protection Agency (HPA) has recorded a lower number of communicable diseases compared to last year.
The comparatively low number of communicable diseases this year is due to the COVID-19 restrictions and regulations reducing the rate of infection, stated HPA. Although cases of diseases spread by mosquitoes increase during the rainy season, statistics from the HPA show 12 cases of dengue were recorded in May, and seven cases were reported in June this year.
HPA has also recorded a decrease in the common cold, with 12,216 cases recorded in May and 5,168 cases recorded in June. Cases of diarrhea have decreased as well, with 1,415 cases recorded in May and 882 cases recorded in June. The lower number of communicable diseases could be the result of individuals practicing good personal hygiene and staying indoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said HPA.
HPA urged individuals to continue adhering to preventing measures and to visit a flu clinic immediately for testing if an individual shows signs of illness.
