Japan extends USD 998,000 grant for human resource development of the Maldives

The governments of the Maldives and Japan have signed the Exchange of Notes to provide a grant aid of USD 998,000 to the Maldives for the continuation of scholarships opportunities to be offered by the government of Japan for the fiscal year 2022 under the Japanese Project for Human Resource Development (JDS).

The Exchange of Notes for the grant aid was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Keiko Yanai at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 15. The grant aid will be utilised to provide 6 scholarships to the Maldives again this year, a project which was implemented last year by the government of Japan for further promoting the human resource development in the Maldives. This is the second year that Japan has provided the Maldives with grant assistance pertaining to human resource development, with the initial agreement signed in 2020.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) attended the ceremony.
