STELCO begins energisation of Greater Male’ power grid

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has commenced energisation of the interconnected power grid established under the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project.

STELCO announced the energisation will be carried out over 4 different days this month, during which power interruptions can be expected in Male’ and Hulhumale’. As such STELCO revealed energisation works will be carried out from July 17-18 and July 21-22, between 0800hrs and 1700hrs.

STELCO further revealed the power grid will be synchronised with the powerhouse in Male’ on the second day of energisation. The company said the work will be completed on the fourth day, with the energisation of Hulhule’ substation.

Under the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project, the power grids of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ have been interconnected with a 100MW interconnection cable running under the Sinamale’ Bridge. Under the project, four 95 MVA transformers have been placed in Male’ and Hulhumale’, along with two 8 MVA transformers in Hulhule’.

STELCO said the aim of the project is to sustainably provide electricity service in the Greater Male’ Region without interruptions.
