State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has revealed the power grids of Male’ and Hulhumale’ have now been synchronised under the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project.
On July 17, STELCO commenced energisation of the interconnected power grid established across Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’. STELCO revealed the first circuit of the grid has been successfully energised. The company said the power grids of Male’ and Hulhumale’ have now been synchronised, allowing power to be supplied across the two areas.
Under the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project, the power grids of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ have been interconnected with a 100MW interconnection cable running under the Sinamale’ Bridge. Under the project, four 95 MVA transformers have been placed in Male’ and Hulhumale’, along with two 8 MVA transformers in Hulhule’.
STELCO said the aim of the project is to sustainably provide electricity service in the Greater Male’ Region without interruptions. As such, the company said interconnection of the power grids would ensure that any problems encountered to the power grid of an individual region could be countered through the power grid of an interconnected region.
