Greater Male’ Interconnection Project successfully completed

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has successfully completed the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project.

STELCO stated the energisation of the interconnected power grid established between Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ has been completed. The state-owned company said the power supply from the interconnected grid will be assessed for a period of one month.

Under the Greater Male’ Interconnection Project, the power grids of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ have been interconnected with a 100MW interconnection cable running under the Sinamale’ Bridge. Under the project, four 95 MVA transformers have been placed in Male’ and Hulhumale’, along with two 8 MVA transformers in Hulhule’.

STELCO said the aim of the project is to sustainably provide electricity service in the Greater Male’ Region without interruptions. As such, the company said interconnection of the power grids would ensure that any problems encountered to the power grid of an individual region could be countered through the power grid of an interconnected region.
