Maldives takes part in UN Food Systems Pre-Summit

The Government of the Maldives has taken part in the Pre-Summit, held ahead of the United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit.

The pre-summit, which took place from July 26-28, was attended on behalf of the Maldives by Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan. Speaking at the summit, the fisheries minister shared the vision of the Maldives in ensuring food security and efforts undertaken to strengthen food production. He also highlighted the importance of focusing efforts on skills development in food production, and facilitating financial and technical assistance for businesses involved in the food sector.

The Pre-Summit of the UN Food Systems Summit was held to set the stage for the culminating global event in September, by bringing together countries from around the world to leverage the power of food systems to deliver progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The ministerial meeting of the pre-summit was attended by ministers from over 100 countries.
