President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially inaugurated the SAFF Championship campaign, organised by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
President Solih inaugurated the SAFF Championship campaign at a ceremony held on at the National Stadium in Male' City. He launched the campaign by touching a replica modelled after the SAFF Championship trophy.
FAM plans to conduct nationwide marketing and public relations activities as part of the campaign. A video demonstration of the campaign was shown during the inauguration ceremony, as well as a presentation detailing the campaign.
At the ceremony, the President of FAM Bassam Adeel Jaleel introduced a book in celebration of the SAFF Championship and disbursed certificates to the partners and sponsors of the event.
This is the first time the SAFF Championship is being held in the Maldives, having previously only jointly hosted the 2008 games with Sri Lanka. The tournament has been scheduled from October 1 to October 16.
The Maldives won the bid to host the 13th edition of the SAFF Championship following a meeting held between SAFF member nations to select a new host for this year's tournament. The tournament had to be moved from Bangladesh due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country.
The Maldives won the SAFF Championship 2008, as well as the most recent edition held in Bangladesh in 2018.
