Pipe laying underway in Maaun’goodhoo under water and sewerage project

Laying of underground pipes has commenced in Maaun’goodhoo, Shaviyani Atoll as part of the water and sewerage project launched in the island.

The water and sewerage project in Maaun’goodhoo is carried out by Static Company Private Limited. Under the project, the contractor is currently the laying the underground pipes needed for the water and sewerage network to be established in the island.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Maaun’goodhoo Island Council Adam Saleem said the lack of a water and sewerage system in the island has led to the contamination of the island’s freshwater lens, which a large number of people in the island use for various purposes. He noted the water and sewerage project had been progressing very slowly until the recent visit by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the island. He noted the president’s actions following the visit has helped to speed up the project.

The water and sewerage project in Maaun’goodhoo is part of President Solih’s pledges to the island. The USD 1.5 million project is the largest infrastructure project to be carried out in the island.
