RCC completes construction of 100 housing units in Naifaru

Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) has announced it has completed the development of 100 housing units in Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll.

RCC will hand over the housing units to the government after an inspection is conducted by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure. The housing ministry stated RCC has confirmed it has completed the project under the design and build policy, and that the inspection will begin soon.

The government contracted RCC to build 100 housing units in 2020, in the reclaimed area of the island at a cost of USD 4.7 million. The project included the construction of three housing blocks constructed to three stories, and one housing block constructed to four stories.

The three-storey blocks have 24 apartments, while the four-storey block has 28 apartments. Each apartment has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room, and a storage area. Each apartment has a total area of 1,000 square feet. The project also includes the development of a one-story housing unit to be given to a family from Maafilafushi.

The development of the housing units in Naifaru is one of six similar projects currently ongoing in the atolls as part of the government's social housing project. Naifaru has 5,400 residents and is currently facing a housing crisis due to the increasing population.
