Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated climate change should not deter investments into the country. He made the remarks at a ceremony to mark the completion of the project to reclaim three islands at Centara New Resorts Maldives.

Speaking at the event, Minister Aslam said the project was one of the most extensive and most successful projects conducted at such a large scale. The minister praised Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for completing the project as a 100% Maldivian company. He also said he was pleased to see a world-renowned company such as Centara Hotels and Resorts investing in the Maldives.

Furthermore, Minister Aslam said the Maldives is a resilient country as shown by its quick recovery from the 2004 tsunami as well as the global economic crisis in 2008 and 2009. He also highlighted the country's quick response and recovery from the COVID-10 pandemic.

Minister Aslam noted that climate change is a major global threat but that it should not deter foreign investment into the Maldives. He said the Maldives has numerous opportunities for investment and will continue to welcome investors.
