MTCC contracted to develop shore protection structures in Kolhufushi

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to conduct the shore protection project in Kolhufushi, Meemu Atoll.

The shore protection project in Kolhufushi was awarded to MTCC for a price of USD 1.48 million. Under the project, MTCC will construct a 136.6-metre revetment on the northeast shores of Kolhufushi, and another 382.2-metre revetment on the southern shores of the island. MTCC is also tasked with constructing two breakwaters and to carry out beach replenishment on the eroded areas of the island. In addition, two 30m x 60m areas will be developed as public swimming areas.

Kolhufushi is one of the many islands in the Maldives suffering from the impact of erosion. MTCC is carrying out projects to develop shore protection in many such islands.
