Monitoring status of Addu City lifted after four months

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the monitoring status in Addu City after four months.

Addu was last placed under monitoring on August 28. HPA said the monitoring status has been lifted as the COVID-19 situation of the city is improving.

Addu was placed under monitoring for four months due to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases. However, the number of daily cases is now below five. Out of the last 123 samples taken from Addu, only four tested positive. In addition, 44 people are currently being treated for COVID-19 in Addu, out of which, four are hospitalised. So far, 12 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in Addu.

COVID-19 cases in the Maldives have been on the rise in recent weeks. Authorities have advised all individuals travelling across islands during the ongoing school holidays to take extra precautions in order to stay safe from COVID-19.
