Magoodhoo Harbour upgrade project to commence this year

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that work to upgrade the harbour in Magoodhoo, Noonu Atoll will begin this year.

In a meeting with Magoodhoo Island Council, President Solih informed the members that funds have been earmarked in the budget for the harbour upgrade and extension and that the project will commence this year. The councillors praised the administration's comprehensive and non-discriminatory national development strategy to bring development to remote communities across the country. The councillors also shared their plans for the island and asked President Solih to seek ways to expedite the harbour extension and road development projects. They also highlighted the need for the introduction of local tourism and members of the Women's Development Committee (WDC) shared the challenges they face due to financial constraints.

During the meeting, President Solih spoke about the administration's decentralised developmental strategy and the developmental plans for the island. He also spoke about some of the projects that had been completed so far, assuring the members that steps would be taken to address their needs.

Furthermore, President Solih also met with the community leaders and residents of the island during his trip to Magoodhoo. During the meeting, the residential community conveyed their pertinent needs and concerns about the developmental initiatives of the island to President Solih. They noted challenges they face due to the lack of a proper harbour and sports facilities for the youth.

President Solih is on a two-day tour of the Noonu Atoll. He is accompanied on the visit by some members of his cabinet and senior government officials.
