Project to connect Komandoo and Mathikomandoo to begin this week

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure announces the project to connect Komandoo and Mathikomandoo in Shaviyani Atoll will begin on January 14.

Connecting the two islands is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the parliamentary by-election campaign in Komandoo for the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on January 7, President Solih assured residents that the government will fulfill its pledges to the constituency. As such, the president said work will begin soon to connect Komandoo and Mathikomandoo via a bridge, as part of the government's efforts to solve the land shortage on the island. He said the government has completed the planning stage and will begin the fieldwork soon.

Speaking to PSM News, State Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddeen said the fieldwork will begin on January 14 to link the two islands within 30 days.

Komandoo Island Council has begun obtaining opinions from residents regarding the project through online forms. The council stated Komandoo residents have been greatly expecting the connection of the two islands to solve the housing issues on the island.
