Social and Residential housing to be developed in Addu City

Addu City Council has contracted a Chinese and a Turkish company to develop social and residential housing units.

The city council has been working to resolve the housing issues faced in Addu due to the increase in the population and the lack of land allocation in recent years. As part of the efforts, the council said an agreement to build social housing units in the city was signed with the Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) of China. In addition, an agreement to build residential housing units was contracted to Vizyon Villa of Turkey.

Addu City Council stated housing projects will begin on vacant land plots as part of the agreement with the Turkish company, adding the Chinese company will carry out the construction of 1,000 to 2,000 social housing units. The council noted the housing units will be constructed under a flat policy.

The Government of the Maldives has been working to resolve the housing issues faced in several islands of the Maldives. In this regard, efforts are underway to build flats in islands in Male' City, Hulhumale' and in the atolls.
