President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on all citizens to receive the COVID-19 booster dose.
In a tweet, President Solih said the best defense against the fast-spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19 is to boost one's vaccine immunity. He said the booster vaccine programme is now open to the public and urged citizens who received both COVID-19 vaccine doses to get the booster dose.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has publicly opened the administration of booster doses to individuals who have completed the two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. HPA revealed all individuals above the age of 18 who have completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine can now register to receive the booster shot of the vaccine.
The health agency announced Pfizer vaccine will be administered as booster doses and that appointments can be made for booster doses through the portal.
HPA began efforts to administer the booster dose at a time when COVID-19 cases are on the rise. The Government of the Maldives has also strengthened the COVID-19 protective measures following the rapid rise in cases across the country.
