STELCO preparing to launch the largest powerhouse project in the Maldives

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has revealed preparations are underway for the largest powerhouse project in the Maldives, which is to be conducted in Hulhumale’.

STELCO said the project involves developing a powerhouse capable of producing 100MW of power. STELCO said the powerhouse is to be developed adjacent to the 50MW powerhouse established in Hulhumale’ under the Fifth Power Project. STELCO said the new project, titled the Sixth Power Project, is the largest powerhouse project to be conducted in the Maldives.

STELCO has issued an announcement seeking a consultant for the project. The state-owned company said the scope of consultancy includes reviewing the design, supervising the site and providing consultancy during development. Bid submission for consultancy of the project will be carried out on February 6.

STELCO is undertaking several projects to improve the quality of electricity services provided in the Greater Male’ Region. As such, STELCO has recently interconnected the power grids of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’, by installing a 100MW interconnection cable.
