State of Public Health Emergency extended

Ministry of Health has extended the State of Public Health Emergency in the Maldives by another month.

The health ministry stated the State of Public Health Emergency initially imposed in the country in March 2020 has been extended until February 28. This is the 22nd time the health emergency has been extended in the Maldives.

A circular signed by Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem stated the decision to extend the State of Public Health Emergency was made to take the necessary measures to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. The health minister has instructed the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakur to continue implementing the measures required to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the Maldives.

The Maldives initially declared a State of Public Health Emergency on March 12, 2020. The State of Public Health Emergency was declared to exert additional efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 and to overcome the disease. The health authorities have asked the public to remain cautious about personal health and hygiene measures.
