Fulhadhoo harbour development to be completed by March

Fulhadhoo Island Council in Baa Atoll has revealed the harbour development project in the island is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Fulhadhoo Island Council stated the project contractor, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has informed that the project is on schedule to be completed by the end of March. The council noted the completion of the project would resolve the long-standing difficulties faced in entry and exit of vessels to and from the island.

MTCC was awarded the project to develop Fulhadhoo harbour in December 2019. Although MTCC had initially aimed to complete the project by December 2020, the project underwent delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the project not being fully completed, residents of Fulhadhoo are already using the new harbour facilities.

Unlike most harbours developed in the Maldves, the harbour in Fulhadhoo is developed away from the main island, and connected to the main island via a bridge. The purpose of the new concept is to control erosion and protect the natural shoreline of the island. The recently concluded harbour in Fehendhoo, Baa Atoll was also developed to this concept.
