Gov't seeks parties to build housing units in five islands

Ministry of Finance has issued an announcement seeking interested parties to design and build housing units in five islands.

The finance ministry is seeking parties to build housing units in Kulhudhuffushi City, Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Holhudhoo in Noonu Atoll, Gan in Laamu Atoll, and Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. The largest of the announced projects will be conducted in Kulhudhuffushi City. As such, the finance ministry announced it is seeking parties to design and build 400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi City.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to build the housing units during his visit to the city on National Youth Day last year. The government has also contracted a company to complete the 145 row houses in the city, which was left unfinished 10 years ago.

The finance ministry is also seeking interested parties to design and build 50 housing units in Milandhoo, 30 units in Holhudhoo, 100 units in Gan, and 50 units in Villingili. Interested parties are required to submit their bids on March 3.

The ministry made the announcement as part of the government's efforts to solve the housing issues in various parts of the country. The government has also been reclaiming land in small islands to make way for housing development, and stated over 2,000 housing units are in various phases of development in the atolls.
