New tourism record: Daily arrivals cross 7,600

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives on a single day have crossed over 7,600 which is a new record in daily tourist arrivals.

Ministry of Tourism has revealed 7,668 tourists arrived in the Maldives on February 12 which is a record number of single-day arrivals since the reopening of the borders in June 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Statistics released by the tourism ministry show that 189,734 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year which is an increase of 46.4% compared to the same period last year.

The statistics show that most arrivals to the country are from Russia accounting for 16.2% of the total arrivals. The UK has the second-highest number of tourist visits with 11.3%.

The tourism ministry revealed an average of 4,812 tourist arrivals are recorded each day, while tourists spend an average of eight days in the Maldives. The Maldives aims to attract 1.6 million tourists this year.
