Frontline prison officers to use body-worn cameras for a trial run

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has signed a contract with Zeta Technologies Private Limited to supply frontline prison officers with body worn cameras on a trial basis.

The contract to supply body-worn cameras for prison officers was signed by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu and Managing Director of Zeta Technologies Mohamed Aiman Adam. Under the agreement, MCS will receive 15 body-worn cameras and three tasers for use by frontline officers. MCS stated the use of such modern technology will increase responsibility and accountability of prison officers, adding it will also play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of those incarcerated as well as prison officers.

The body worn cameras were manufactured by an American company Axon, whose products are imported and distributed in the Maldives by Zeta Technologies. Body-worn cameras were recently introduced to the operations of Maldives Police Service (MPS) as well.
