Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 250,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.
The statistics from the tourism ministry show 251,339 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 47% increase compared to the tourist arrivals recorded in the same period last year. Tourists stay in the Maldives for an average of 8.8 days, which is also an increase compared to the 8.7 days recorded last year and the 7.2 days recorded in 2020.
The highest number of tourists visited from Russia this year with 39,660 arrivals, with the second-highest being the UK with 28,569 arrivals. Russia had the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives at the end of 2021, only exceeded by India. However, India is currently the third-largest source market with 22,138 arrivals to the Maldives recorded so far this year.
The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives Tourism this year. The tourism ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry are working to register two million tourist arrivals this year.
