Medical doctors specialisation scholarship opportunity opened

Ministry of Higher Education has opened the opportunity to apply for a Medical Doctors Specialisation scholarship.

The higher education ministry stated the scholarships will be fully funded by the Government of Maldives. A total of 15 scholarship opportunities have been opened, including 10 slots for a master's degree and 5 slots for a doctoral degree. The deadline to submit the application is April 7.

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan said the fully funded scholarship opportunities aim to train specialists needed in hospitals across the country. As such, the government is seeking specialists for the Addu Equatorial Hospital, Hulhumale' Hospital, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Gan Regional Hospital, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital, Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, and Muli Regional Hospital. The higher education ministry will prioritise doctors already working in these hospitals when choosing the candidates, as well as the years they have worked at the hospital and their academic merit.

After choosing the candidates, the government will cover their ticket purchase, stipends, book allowance, course fee, establishment allowance, departure allowance, and visa expenditure. The candidates are required to begin their studies within 10 months and will be allowed to cancel their scholarship beforehand.

Candidates who fail to complete the course will be required to pay back the expenses under the terms set by the ministry. The ministry will also penalise those who discard the scholarship opportunity after being nominated.
