Gov’t announces project to upgrade power grids in 15 islands

Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology has announced a project to upgrade the power grids of 15 islands.

The environment ministry is seeking contractors to upgrade grids in three stages. As such, stage one involves upgrading grids in two areas in Addu City, as well as Fuvamulah City, and Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Stage two involves upgrading grids in Kulhudhuffushi City, Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll, and Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll. Stage three involves upgrading grids in Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll as well as Fonadhoo, Isdhoo, Kalaidhoo and Dhanbidhoo, Maabaidhoo, Kunahandhoo, and Hithadhoo in Laamu Atoll. The scope of the project involves delivering grid infrastructures to support grid modernisation and the connection and integration of solar panels to the network on 15 islands.

Interested eligible bidders may register with the Ministry of Finance for the project by submitting a non-refundable registration fee through the online portal. A complete set of the bidding document and related documentation is available from the ministry’s website, and all bids must be submitted before June 1.

The project is being funded under the Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) Project, which is funded by the World Bank.
