Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated it will allow small businesses to operate in the Hiya flats area.
Unauthorised businesses have set up tables to sell various products and food items near the Hiyaa flats. HDC has called on the businesses to stop their operations due to the lack of hygiene, as the area is surrounded by construction sites.
HDC warned the businesses to shut down operations by April 10, and is now working to empty the area of tables and stalls. However, the company stated it wishes to authorise some small businesses to operate near the Hiyaa flats in accordance with established guidelines.
HDC has also begun work to establish a local market for residents of the Hiyaa flats. Some stalls in the market are currently selling fruits and vegetables.
