MTCC commences Rathafandhoo Shore Protection Project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the shore protection project of Rathafandhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The scope of the project involves the construction of a 461m revetment, a 240m breakwater, and 6,600cbm of beach filling operations. MTCC was tasked with completing the project within 210 days at a cost of USD1.8 million.

Rathafandhoo has a population of 1,385. Since the 1990s, the most tragic and the biggest concern of the residents is erosion and flooding. As such, the erosion has affected much of the beach area on the west side and caused flooding in the island. The floods have also caused various damages to farms and residential areas.

MTCC aims to solve the erosion problem faced by to Rathafandhoo with the completion of the shore protection project.
