Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to conduct walk-in interviews every Thursday to increase its labour force.
Speaking at a press conference, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shahid Ali said the purpose of the walk-in interviews is to increase the number of labourers due to the increasing number of imported goods. He said MPL is always looking to speed up operations and solve the various challenges in its work by expanding resources and hiring more labourers.
Additionally, CEO Shahid said some of the work is outsourced to various contractors but that MPL needs to handle its own operations to make it more efficient. He said MPL has 1,800 labourers and needs 30 more, adding that further information on the walk-in interviews has been published in the Government Gazette and that the company will look into the criminal records of the interviewees.
MPL has been making efforts to increase its efficiency by expanding the storage space at the Male’ Commercial Harbour and procuring more equipment and resources for its operations.
