MTCC begins construction of fire building in Alifushi Airport

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the construction of the fire building as part of the development of the airport in Alifushi, Raa Atoll.

MTCC was awarded the contract for the development of Alifushi Airport on September 1, 2021. MTCC has begun the construction of the structures of the airport following the completion of the reclamation of land. MTCC stated that 50 hectares of land will be used for the airport area and10 hectares will be used for housing and economic activities on the island. The construction of the fire building and shuttering and bar banding of the fire pond is currently underway.

The scope of the project involves reclamation operations of 50.5 hectares, construction of a 2,871m revetment, a 480m groyne, as well as the construction of a 1,500m runway, apron, taxiway, and service roads, terminal building, fire building, installation of firefighting equipment and a 655m security fence. It also includes coastal protection of the airport development area. The project was contracted to be completed within two years at a cost of over USD30 million.
