Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has mobilised the Kandu'oiy Giri Harbor Development project.
Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture contracted MTCC to undertake the development of the harbour facilities in Kandu Oiy Giri, Kaafu Atoll, in May. The state-owned company is required to complete the project within 365 days at a cost of USD2.34 million.
The scope of works for the project includes harbour dredging operations of 10,000cbm, channel dredging of 10,000cbm, construction of a 50m breakwater, a 63m revetment, a 125m quay wall, installation of 215m sheet pile, installation of harbour pavement, installation of harbour and navigational lights. Additionally, work will be done to install a freshwater and saltwater line on the harbour.
Kandu'oiy Giri is an island assigned for the operations of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO). The harbour development project aims to ensure that the fishing vessels using the harbour facilities on the island will be able to safely dock alongside the harbour to attain service from the MIFCO facility.
