RTL provided in accordance with international standards: MTCC

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said that Raajje Transport Link (RTL) services are being provided in accordance to international standards.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said MTCC is engaged in many business ventures but only the transport sector receives subsidies from the government. He said MTCC would not be able to conduct the services without subsidies due to the wide gap between expenditure and revenue.

Furthermore, Azim said the World Bank has conducted a study on the provision of RTL and has concluded the services are provided to international standards. He said MTCC makes sure that all its expenditure is done in the best possible way and that the RTL service will be expanded to the entire country within the next 24 months.

The National Public Ferry Network is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, and convenient passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerating social and economic growth, improving efficiency in the delivery of public services, and improving mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation. The government aims to connect all Maldivian islands using the ferry network by the end of 2023.
